Vivo Y21a: Full Specifications and Price in Pakistan

The Vivo Y21a is a 2022 budget smartphone, and one fact must be stated up front: this is a 4G-only phone with the MediaTek Helio P22 chipset. It is not the same as the Vivo Y21 5G (2026 refresh), the 2021 Vivo Y21, or the Vivo Y21e, despite the near-identical names. The Y21a launched in India and was never officially launched in Pakistan, so any unit on sale here is used or imported. This article covers its full specifications, used price, PTA guidance, and honest buying advice.

Name warning: the Y21a differs from the 2021 Y21 (Helio P35) mainly in chipset, and from the Y21e (Snapdragon 680). If a listing just says "Y21", ask the seller to confirm the exact model and processor.

Design and Build Quality

The Y21a follows the familiar budget Vivo design of its era: waterdrop notch, plastic frame and back, and a rectangular camera island. It measures 164.26 x 76.08 x 8.0 mm and weighs 182 grams - balanced in the hand. Diamond Glow has a light-shifting finish; Midnight Blue is understated. The side fingerprint sensor in the power button works reliably. As a four-year-old phone, used units need checking for scratches, dents, and screen wear.

Display Features

The 6.51-inch IPS LCD has an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels (20:9, about 270 ppi). Colours are typical budget LCD: decent for WhatsApp, YouTube, and TikTok, though text is not as crisp as Full HD. Brightness is fine indoors but the screen washes out under strong summer sunlight.

Screen Specifications

• 6.51 inches, IPS LCD, 720 x 1600 pixels (HD+), 20:9
• 60Hz refresh rate, around 270 ppi
• Waterdrop notch for the 8MP front camera

Processor and Performance

The Helio P22 is a 12nm octa-core chip (eight 2.0GHz Cortex-A53 cores) with a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. By 2026 standards it is entry-level: calls, WhatsApp, YouTube, Facebook, and light apps run fine, but heavy multitasking and modern games will feel slow. This is strictly a used-market phone - a backup or basic-use device, not a performance phone.

Performance in Daily Use

With 4GB of physical RAM plus 1GB of virtual extended RAM, everyday apps are acceptable, though app reloads are common with many apps open. Gaming is limited to light titles at low settings. The efficient chip keeps heat and power drain low during normal use.

RAM and Storage

The Y21a sold in one configuration in India: 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. A dedicated microSD slot allows expansion without sacrificing the second SIM - handy for large photo and video libraries.

Memory and Expandability

• 4GB RAM (+1GB extended virtual RAM)
• 64GB internal storage, dedicated microSD slot
• Check remaining free storage and confirm a clean factory reset

Camera Features

The rear dual camera pairs a 13MP main sensor (f/2.2) with a 2MP macro lens. Daylight shots are acceptable for social media with Vivo's typically saturated processing. The 2MP macro lens is of limited practical use, and low-light shots are noisy. Video tops out at 1080p at 30fps.

Rear Camera Setup

• 13MP main camera, f/2.2, LED flash, 1080p@30fps
• 2MP macro camera, f/2.4
• Portrait, panorama, HDR, and face beauty modes

Front Camera and Video

The 8MP front camera (f/2.0) with HDR handles selfies and video calls adequately in good light. Serviceable for WhatsApp and IMO calls, but not a selfie specialist's phone.

Battery and Charging

The 5,000mAh battery was a launch highlight and remains the Y21a's best used-market argument. A healthy unit still delivers a full day of moderate use - but battery health on a 2022 phone must always be checked, since degraded batteries are the most common issue at this age.

Battery Life and Charging Speed

• 5,000mAh non-removable battery
• 18W fast charging over USB Type-C
• Ask about battery health and test standby drain before buying

Software and Updates

The Y21a launched with Android 11 and Funtouch OS 11.1. Vivo rolled out an Android 12-based Funtouch OS 12 update in India in early 2023, so some units may be on Android 12. No further major updates should be expected - the software is several generations old.

Software Experience and Updates

This generation includes iManager, EasyShare, Multi-Turbo, and Ultra Game Mode. Used buyers should factory-reset the phone, check for leftover Google or Vivo account locks, and confirm the installed Android version in settings.

Connectivity and Additional Features

4G LTE with dual Nano-SIM, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, multi-system GPS, FM radio, USB Type-C 2.0 with OTG, and a 3.5mm jack. No 5G, no NFC. Sensors include the side fingerprint reader, accelerometer, proximity, compass, ambient light, and a virtual gyroscope.

Variants, Colours and Availability

Announced January 2022 and launched in India later that month in Midnight Blue and Diamond Glow at Rs. 13,990 (INR). Never officially launched in Pakistan. On the local used market, units appear sporadically - treat every listing as an individual used device with its own condition and history.

Price in Pakistan and PTA Information

There is no official new price in Pakistan. Zohaan Mobile Gallery lists the Y21a at Rs. 30,999 - the store's listed price for a used unit, not a verified current market price, since catalog figures date from the October 2026 import and the used market moves fast. Against the 2022 India launch price of Rs. 13,990 (INR), Rs. 30,999 for a used unit years later deserves a careful condition check: battery health, screen, cameras, and buttons. PTA approval is per-device and per-IMEI - never assume a used imported phone is PTA approved; check the IMEI yourself before paying.

Main Advantages and Limitations

Advantages:

• 5,000mAh battery with 18W charging - still practical for light use
• Large 6.51-inch display, side fingerprint sensor
• Dedicated microSD slot alongside dual SIM
• USB Type-C and 3.5mm jack

Limitations:

• Helio P22 is slow by 2026 standards - basic use only
• No 5G, no NFC, 60Hz HD+ display
• Outdated software (Android 11/12), no further updates expected
• Never officially launched in Pakistan - warranty depends on the seller

Who Should Consider This Phone?

The Y21a works as a cheap secondary phone, a first smartphone for a child or elderly family member, or a basic WhatsApp-and-calls device on a tight budget. Not for gamers, heavy multitaskers, or anyone wanting a phone that stays current for years. Compare its used price against newer budget options - a small difference can buy a much newer phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions Answered

Is the Vivo Y21a a 5G phone?
No - it is 4G-only. Only the 2026 Vivo Y21 5G supports 5G, a completely different phone despite the similar name.

Was it launched in Pakistan?
No. It launched in India in January 2022. Confirm the PTA status of the exact IMEI.

How do the Y21, Y21a, and Y21e differ?
Chipset: 2021 Y21 uses Helio P35, Y21a uses Helio P22, Y21e uses Snapdragon 680. All three are 4G phones with similar designs.

What should I check before buying used?
Battery health and standby drain, screen, both cameras, fingerprint sensor, speakers, charging port, and a clean factory reset with no account locks.

Final Verdict

The Y21a was a sensible budget phone in 2022, and used it can still serve as an affordable basic smartphone with excellent battery life. But its age shows: slow chipset, outdated software, no official Pakistan presence. Buy only at a genuinely low price after a thorough hands-on check - confirm the exact model, test everything, and verify the PTA status of the IMEI.
