Samsung Galaxy A2 Core — Full Specifications, Features and Price in Pakistan

The Samsung Galaxy A2 Core is a 2019 Android Go phone — one of the simplest smartphones Samsung ever made, built for buyers who need calls, WhatsApp, and little else. It is long discontinued, so every unit on sale in Pakistan today is used or old stock, and this guide treats it that way: verified specifications, what a phone this old can and cannot do in 2026, and exactly what to check before handing over money for one.

Key Specifications at a Glance

Design and Build Quality

The A2 Core is small by modern standards — a 5-inch screen in a pocketable plastic body — which some buyers actually prefer for one-handed use. There is no fingerprint sensor and no face unlock worth relying on; security is a PIN or pattern. Build quality is basic Samsung plastic: durable enough, but this is a phone that already has six or seven years of wear on any used unit, so inspect the body and buttons in person.

Display Features

The 5.0-inch 540 x 960 display is low resolution by any modern measure — text looks soft and video is far from sharp. It is adequate for calls, WhatsApp texting, and basic browsing, which is all this phone was designed for. Do not buy it expecting to watch videos comfortably or read small text for long periods.

Processor and Performance

The Exynos 7870 is an old but honest chip: eight Cortex-A53 cores that handle the lightweight Android Go system reasonably. It will run WhatsApp, phone calls, SMS, FM radio, and light browsing. It will not run heavy apps, modern games, or multiple demanding apps at once — the 1GB of RAM is the real bottleneck, and Android will constantly be closing background apps.

RAM and Storage

1GB of RAM with 8GB of storage (16GB in some regions) is the defining limitation of this phone. After the system, only a couple of gigabytes remain for apps, so a microSD card is practically mandatory for photos and WhatsApp media. Go-edition apps (lighter versions of Google apps) are preinstalled to cope with the tiny memory — stick to those and avoid installing the full versions.

Camera Features

A 5MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, plus a 5MP front camera. In bright daylight you can capture recognisable photos and documents; in low light, results are poor. There is no portrait mode, no night mode, and no stabilisation. Treat the camera as a utility for scanning documents and quick snaps, not photography.

Battery and Charging

The 2,600mAh battery was small even in 2019, and any used unit's battery has aged. Expect to charge daily with light use, and budget for the possibility that the battery needs replacement. There is no fast charging — refills take a couple of hours over microUSB. Ask the seller about the battery's current condition before buying; a weak battery on a Rs. 12,000 phone can cost a large fraction of the phone's value to replace.

Software and Updates

The A2 Core runs Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition) and received no meaningful updates after launch — it is years past any security patch. That has real consequences: some banking apps and newer app versions no longer support Android 8, and the outdated system is more vulnerable. Do not use this phone for mobile banking or anything security-sensitive.

Connectivity and Additional Features

4G LTE on dual Micro-SIM slots (note: Micro-SIM, not the Nano-SIM modern phones use — you may need an adapter or a new SIM cut), Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, FM radio, and microUSB 2.0 with OTG support. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack, a small mercy. No NFC, no fingerprint sensor, no 5G — none of which this phone's target buyer needs.

Variants, Colours and Availability

The A2 Core shipped as 1GB+8GB in most markets with a 16GB version in some regions; all take a microSD card. Colours included Black, Blue, Dark Grey, and Red. Every unit available today is used or very old stock — there is no such thing as a factory-sealed 2026 A2 Core. Buy it as a used phone, inspect it as a used phone, and pay a used-phone price.

Price in Pakistan and PTA Information

The store-listed price is Rs. 12,000 at Zohaan Mobile Gallery (verified 2026-10-11) for a used/old-stock unit. Used prices depend entirely on condition — battery health, screen, and body wear — so treat the listing as a starting point and inspect the actual unit. PTA: PTA approval applies per device and IMEI, not per model. Before paying, send the phone's IMEI to 8484 and confirm 'Compliant' status — non-compliant phones stop working on Pakistani networks after the grace period. How to check PTA approval.

Main Advantages and Limitations

Advantages:

• Extremely cheap — Rs. 12,000 for a working Samsung smartphone
• Compact and light; easy one-handed use
• Android Go keeps the basics (calls, WhatsApp, SMS) running on 1GB RAM
• FM radio and 3.5mm headphone jack
• Dedicated microSD slot for cheap storage expansion

Limitations:

• 1GB RAM and 8GB storage are severely limiting in 2026
• Android 8.1 with no security updates — unsafe for banking apps
• Low-resolution 5-inch display; poor for video and reading
• Weak 5MP cameras with no modern modes
• Small 2,600mAh battery with no fast charging; used batteries are degraded
• Uses Micro-SIM — your current Nano-SIM will not fit directly

Who Should Consider This Phone?

Good fit: buyers who need the cheapest possible working phone for calls and WhatsApp — a backup phone, a phone for an elderly relative with simple needs, or a temporary replacement while a main phone is repaired.

Look elsewhere if: you need banking apps, good cameras, video watching, or gaming — even the cheapest modern phone outperforms it. Browse used mobiles or the Samsung collection for a capable used option at a similar budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the price of the Galaxy A2 Core in Pakistan?

Is the Galaxy A2 Core still usable in 2026?

For calls, SMS, WhatsApp, and FM radio — yes. For banking apps, modern games, or heavy multitasking — no. The 1GB RAM and Android 8.1 are hard limits.

Does it support 4G?

Yes, it has 4G LTE. It does not support 5G.

Can it run WhatsApp?

Yes, WhatsApp runs on the Go-edition system, though performance is basic. Keep the app updated as long as WhatsApp supports the Android version.

What is Android Go?

A lightweight version of Android designed for phones with 1GB RAM or less, with slimmed-down Google apps. It is what makes this phone usable at all.

How is the battery life on a used unit?

The 2,600mAh battery was modest when new and has aged since. Expect daily charging and ask the seller about battery condition before buying.

Is it PTA approved?

PTA status is per-device. Verify the specific unit's IMEI by SMS to 8484 before purchase — this is critical for older import units.

Should I buy it new or used?

There is no new stock — every A2 Core on sale today is used or old stock. Buy it strictly as a used phone: check the screen, battery, and IMEI in person. See how to buy a used mobile safely.

Final Verdict

The Galaxy A2 Core is not a smartphone recommendation — it is a basic-communication tool at Rs. 12,000. If your needs stop at calls and WhatsApp and your budget is absolute minimum, it does the job. For anything more, spend a little extra on a newer used phone; the difference in daily usability is enormous.
