Oppo A96: Full Specifications, Features, and Price in Pakistan

Oppo A96 Overview

The Oppo A96 launched in spring 2022 as a 4G mid-ranger built around the 6nm Snapdragon 680, pairing it with a 6.59-inch FHD+ 90Hz display, 50MP main camera, 5000mAh battery with 33W SUPERVOOC charging, and 8GB RAM with 256GB storage in most markets. Launched at PHP 15,999 in the Philippines and INR 19,999 in India, it was Oppo's 'smooth and sensible' option. In 2026 it is used-only, where its 90Hz screen and efficient chip still make it a competent budget daily driver.

Design and Build Quality

The A96 uses Oppo's Glow matte finish — scratch- and fingerprint-resistant — in Starry Black and Pearl Pink. At 191g and 8.4mm it is the heaviest here after the A79 5G, but balanced. Dual stereo speakers are a welcome inclusion its AMOLED siblings lack. On used units, check speaker grilles for dust clogging and test both speakers — speaker claims are among the few things the check warranty covers, so test in store.

Display

The 6.59-inch FHD+ LTPS panel at 90Hz with 180Hz touch sampling, 401 ppi, 600 nits and DCI-P3 color is a well-rounded 2022 mid-range screen, still pleasant in 2026. The trade-off is LCD vs AMOLED: weaker contrast than the A95's panel, but zero burn-in risk on a four-year-old used phone — a meaningful advantage when buying used.

Performance and Hardware

The 6nm Snapdragon 680 is efficiency-first: a die-shrunk 665-class chip that handles everyday tasks, social apps and media smoothly while sipping power — a key reason the 5000mAh battery stretches so far. 8GB RAM plus 5GB RAM Expansion and 256GB UFS 2.2 (most markets) keep multitasking comfortable. Gaming is casual-to-medium only. In 2026 the limit is Android 11 software, not the silicon — verify app compatibility for anything essential.

Camera System

The dual camera is led by a 50MP f/1.8 main sensor (reported Samsung JN1) with a 2MP depth helper — sharp, well-exposed daylight shots with Oppo's vivid tuning, but no ultrawide or macro lens. The 16MP f/2.0 front camera (reported Sony IMX471) is a step up from the 8MP units on the A79 5G/A93s 5G. Video is 1080p30 both sides. Fewer lenses means fewer things to test — but test both, since camera faults fall outside the check warranty.

Battery and Charging

The 5000mAh battery plus the frugal Snapdragon 680 delivers excellent endurance — among the best screen-on time in this slice. 33W SUPERVOOC refills about 50% in ~26 minutes (advertised). On a 2022 phone, battery health is the number-one inspection item: ask whether the cell is original and observe drain in store. A degraded battery plus replacement cost can erase the A96's price edge over newer used options.

Software: ColorOS

Android 11 / ColorOS 11.1 is final — no major upgrades, no current security patches — though the OS itself is polished, with RAM Expansion, Hyper Boost and solid privacy controls, and the Snapdragon 680 runs it without strain. In 2026 the practical question is app support: confirm banking and essential apps still run on Android 11.

Connectivity and Additional Features

Straightforward 4G-era connectivity:

• 4G LTE — the 5G variant is the separate China-only A96 5G (Dimensity 810)
• Dual Nano-SIM + microSDXC up to 1TB
• Dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C with OTG
• GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS; 3.5mm jack; no NFC in most markets

Oppo A96 vs Oppo A96 5G: Not the Same Phone

This article covers the Oppo A96 4G (2022, global): Snapdragon 680, 6.59-inch 90Hz LCD, 50MP camera. The Oppo A96 5G is a separate China-only phone with a Dimensity 810 and different cameras — do not buy one expecting the other's specs, and do not compare their prices as one device. In the global family, the A96 sits between the A95 (Snapdragon 662, AMOLED) and the A98 (Snapdragon 695, 5G, 64MP, 67W). Snapdragon 680 + Android 11 on About Phone confirms the A96 4G.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths:

• 90Hz FHD+ display, 600 nits — smooth with no burn-in risk
• Efficient 6nm Snapdragon 680 + 5000mAh = excellent endurance
• 33W SUPERVOOC (~50% in 26 min advertised)
• Dual stereo speakers + 3.5mm jack + IPX4
• 8GB RAM with 256GB storage in most markets

Weaknesses:

• LCD contrast can't match the A95's AMOLED
• No ultrawide or macro; 1080p30 video only
• Efficiency-first chip — not for heavy gaming
• Android 11, no security updates; app compatibility shrinking
• No 5G; no NFC in most markets; discontinued

How It Compares to Nearby Oppo Models

Versus the A95, the A96 is newer and smoother — 90Hz, Snapdragon 680, 256GB, stereo speakers — against the A95's superior AMOLED and triple camera. Versus the A98, it is outclassed on chip, 5G, cameras, charging and display, but should cost meaningfully less used. Against modern budget phones, the 90Hz screen and big battery keep it competitive as a cheap daily driver, but Android 11 is the ceiling — it suits buyers wanting maximum screen-on time per rupee without 5G.

Used-Market Buying Checklist

Most units of this model in Pakistan in 2026 are used or grey-import devices, not official PTA-registered new stock. Run this checklist before you pay:

• Confirm the Snapdragon 680 A96 4G (not the China-only A96 5G) via About Phone; verify storage variant (128GB vs 256GB).
• Ask about battery health — the 5000mAh cell is 4+ years old; observe drain during inspection.
• Test both rear cameras, front camera, side fingerprint, and both stereo speakers (speaker claims ARE covered — test in store).
• Check PTA status via IMEI (dial *#06#); confirm essential apps run on Android 11.
• Inspect for water damage, opening, or third-party repairs (void the warranty); confirm the 33W charger is included.
