Design and Build Quality
The A31 uses a polycarbonate body with a duo-tone gradient design in Fantasy White and Mystery Black, measuring 163.9 x 75.5 x 8.3 mm and weighing 180 g. The rear panel curves softly around the edges for a comfortable grip, and the triple camera sits in a vertical capsule housing with a ringed rear-mounted fingerprint sensor beside it. It is a simple, light, plastic build — durable enough for daily use, but with no premium materials.
Display Features
The 6.5-inch IPS LCD produces 720 x 1600 resolution (~270 ppi) with a tall 20:9 aspect ratio and a waterdrop notch, reaching an 89% screen-to-body ratio. Two things stand out for a 2020 budget phone: Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and 480 nits of typical brightness — both genuinely useful, the first against scratches and the second for outdoor readability. The HD+ resolution is the compromise: fine for videos and social apps, slightly soft for small text.
Processor and Performance
The MediaTek Helio P35 (12 nm) is an entry-level octa-core chip (eight Cortex-A53 cores up to 2.3 GHz) with a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. These are manufacturer specifications, not tested performance. It handles calls, WhatsApp, YouTube, and casual games adequately, but it was a modest chip even in 2020 — in 2026, treat it as strictly basic-use hardware. Heavy apps and 3D gaming will struggle.
RAM and Storage
Pakistan got two variants: 4GB RAM + 128GB storage, and a cheaper 3GB + 32GB edition. The 4GB/128GB version is the one worth hunting for — 128GB (eMMC 5.1) gives apps room to breathe. Both variants get a dedicated 3-card slot, so microSD expansion (up to 256GB per listings) never costs you a SIM slot.
Camera Features
The triple rear camera pairs a 12MP main sensor (f/1.8, PDAF) with a 2MP macro and a 2MP depth sensor, plus LED flash, recording 1080p video at 30fps. The macro and depth lenses are basic helpers — daylight shots from the main 12MP sensor are the usable output. The 8MP front camera (f/2.0) includes Oppo's AI beautification for selfies. Keep expectations modest: this is an entry-level 2020 camera system.
Battery and Charging
The 4,230mAh battery was a strong point at launch — Oppo claimed up to 14 hours of video streaming per charge. There is no fast charging; refills happen over the microUSB port at standard speed, so a full charge takes a while. On a used unit, battery wear is the main variable — test real drain before buying. No wireless charging.
Software and Updates
The A31 launched on Android 9.0 (Pie) with ColorOS 6.1. Oppo's update support for this model ended long ago, so a used A31 runs an old Android version with no further security patches confirmed. As with other Android 9 phones, verify that your banking and essential apps still install and run on it before paying.
Connectivity and Additional Features
4G LTE (no 5G), dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS with A-GPS and BDS, FM radio, microUSB 2.0 with OTG, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. NFC is not supported, so no contactless payments. The rear fingerprint sensor and face unlock cover biometrics.
Variants, Colours and Availability
Two Pakistan variants were sold: 4GB + 128GB and 3GB + 32GB, in Fantasy White and Mystery Black. The A31 is discontinued, so only used units circulate. Note that an older, unrelated Oppo A31 existed in 2015 — make sure any listing you check is the 2020 model with the triple camera.
Price in Pakistan and PTA Information
No verified current (2026) price exists — the A31 is a discontinued 2020 model. Historical listings show Rs. 29,999 (4GB + 128GB) and a Rs. 22,999 launch price for the 3GB variant; both are stale and do not reflect today's used-market value. Confirm the current price with Zohaan Mobile Gallery before buying.
PTA: PTA approval applies per device and IMEI, not per model. Before paying, send the phone's IMEI to 8484 and confirm "Compliant" status. How to check PTA approval.

Final Verdict
The Oppo A31 was a sensible budget phone in 2020: Gorilla Glass 5, a big battery, and 128GB storage at an entry price. In 2026 it is strictly a used-market basic phone — the Helio P35, Android 9, and microUSB charging are all firmly dated. Buy it only if the price is low, the battery holds up, and your essential apps run on it. Otherwise, the money stretches further on a newer used model.
