Design and Build Quality
The Y9 2019 introduced the notched 6.5-inch display to the Y-series, with a glass front, plastic back/frame, dimensions of 162.4 x 77.1 x 8.1 mm and 173 g. It came in Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, and Aurora Purple. The rear fingerprint scanner and Face Unlock cover biometrics. Build quality was a step above the Y7 models. On used units, inspect the notch area and check for screen uniformity.
Display Features
The 6.5-inch IPS LCD delivers 1080 x 2340 Full HD+ resolution (~396 ppi) in a 19.5:9 ratio — sharp, bright, and still perfectly usable in 2026 for reading, video, and social apps. Some listings mention Corning Gorilla Glass protection, but this was not officially confirmed and is not stated as fact here.
Processor and Performance
The Kirin 710 (12 nm, 4 x Cortex-A73 at 2.2 GHz + 4 x Cortex-A53 at 1.7 GHz, Mali-G51 MP4) was Huawei's mid-range workhorse and remains the fastest chip among the pre-2020 models in this batch. With 4GB of RAM it handles everyday apps, multitasking, and casual gaming comfortably. It won't match modern chips, but for a used phone under Rs. 40,000 it is still respectable.
RAM and Storage
Huawei sold the Y9 2019 in several variants: 3GB/64GB, 4GB/64GB, 4GB/128GB, and 6GB/128GB. The 4GB + 128GB version is the sweet spot for used buyers. Storage expands via microSD in a dedicated slot, so dual-SIM users keep both SIMs. eMMC 5.1 storage is slower than modern UFS, but fine for the class.
Camera Features
The dual rear camera pairs a 13MP main sensor (f/1.8, PDAF) with a 2MP depth sensor for portrait shots, LED flash, and 1080p video — note some markets received a 16MP main sensor, so check the specific unit. The standout is the dual front camera: 16MP (f/2.0) + 2MP depth sensor for detailed portrait selfies. Daylight photos are good for the class; low-light is average.
Battery and Charging
The 4,000mAh battery reliably covered a full day when new. Charging is 10W over microUSB — slow by modern standards, and the one spec that feels dated. No wireless charging. On used units, battery health after 7 years is the key variable; test it.
Software and Updates
Runs Android 8.1 Oreo with EMUI 8.2 and — critically — full Google Mobile Services: Play Store, Gmail, YouTube, and Maps all work natively, since the phone launched in October 2018. This is the Y9 2019's biggest used-market advantage over the 2020 HMS-only models. Official updates ended long ago; verify your essential apps still support Android 8.1.
Connectivity and Additional Features
GSM / HSPA / LTE with single or dual Nano-SIM (market dependent). Dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS with A-GPS/GLONASS/BDS, FM radio, 3.5mm headphone jack, and microUSB 2.0. No NFC. Sensors: rear fingerprint, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass. 10W wired charging (5V/2A).
Variants, Colours and Availability
Variants: 3GB/64GB, 4GB/64GB, 4GB/128GB, 6GB/128GB in Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, and Aurora Purple. Do not confuse it with the Y9 Prime 2019 — a different phone with a pop-up selfie camera, Kirin 710F, and triple rear camera. The Y9 2019 is discontinued; only used or refurbished units remain.
Price in Pakistan and PTA Information
The official price started at Rs. 29,999 (4GB + 64GB). Now discontinued; used-market listing estimates range from ~Rs. 34,000 (3GB/64GB) to ~Rs. 37,999 (4GB/128GB) depending on variant and condition. Confirm the current price for the specific variant with Zohaan Mobile Gallery before buying.
