Design and Build Quality

The Y5 2019 adopted the waterdrop notch at 147.1 x 70.8 x 8.5 mm and 146 g — a modern look for 2019, with a glass front and plastic back and frame. It comes in four colours including the leather-textured Amber Brown. There is no fingerprint sensor; face unlock via the front camera is the biometric option. The design was a clear step forward from the 2018 models.

Display Features

The 5.71-inch 720 x 1520 IPS panel (~295 ppi) in a 19:9 ratio is the largest screen on any Y5 so far, with slim bezels and the small waterdrop cutout. It is sharp enough for everyday use and noticeably more immersive than the 2018's 5.45-inch panel. LCD limitations apply — no always-on display, average outdoor brightness.

Processor and Performance

The Helio A22 (12nm, 2.0 GHz quad-core Cortex-A53, PowerVR GE8320) is a genuine generational step up from the MT6739: faster clocks on a more efficient process. With 2GB of RAM it handles everyday apps smoothly — browsing, social apps, YouTube — and even light gaming is possible at modest settings. It is still a budget chip, not a performer, but it is the strongest Y5 chip before the Y5p's Helio P22.

RAM and Storage

2GB of RAM with 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, plus a dedicated microSD slot supporting up to 512GB. The 32GB variant is the one to prefer — 16GB fills up fast with modern app sizes. Dedicated slot means storage expansion never costs you a SIM.

Camera Features

The 13MP f/1.8 rear camera with PDAF is the best-specced camera on a Y5 yet: the wider f/1.8 aperture lets in more light than the f/2.0–f/2.2 lenses before it, and phase-detection autofocus locks on faster. Daylight shots are solid for the class; low-light remains noisy with no night mode. The 5MP f/2.2 front camera handles selfies and video calls. Video is 1080p at 30fps.

Battery and Charging

The 3,020mAh non-removable battery, combined with the efficient 12nm chip, delivers comfortable all-day use for typical workloads. Charging is microUSB 2.0 with no fast charging — the one spec that already felt dated in 2019.

Software and Updates

Android 9.0 Pie with EMUI 9/9.1 — the newest software on any Y5 model — and critically, full Google Mobile Services with the Play Store, since the phone launched before the restrictions affected new Huawei devices. Android 9 is old and unpatched, but app compatibility is the best in the Y5 line: the vast majority of apps still install. Test banking apps on the unit regardless.

Connectivity and Additional Features

4G LTE (bands 1/3/7/8/20), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Wi-Fi Direct and hotspot, Bluetooth with A2DP and LE, GPS with GLONASS and BDS, FM radio, 3.5mm jack, and microUSB 2.0. NFC exists only on the AMN-LX1 regional variant — do not assume it on other units.

Variants, Colours and Availability

Model codes AMN-LX9, LX1, LX2, and LX3 cover regional variants (SIM configuration and NFC differ). Storage comes as 16GB or 32GB with 2GB RAM; colours are Midnight Black, Modern Black, Sapphire Blue, and Amber Brown. It is a distinct, newer phone than the Y5 2018 — bigger screen, faster 12nm chip, Android 9 — so do not cross-apply 2018 prices or specs.

Price in Pakistan and PTA Information

The Y5 2019 launched in Pakistan at Rs. 19,999 (Hamariweb, now discontinued) and is no longer sold new — WhatMobile Pakistan lists it as discontinued with no current price. Used units are the only option; the store's internal catalog carries a used-stock reference of around Rs. 7,000 (2026-10-01 import, not an independently verified market price). Confirm the actual price and storage variant with the store.

PTA: PTA approval applies per device and IMEI, not per model. Before paying, send the phone's IMEI to 8484 and confirm "Compliant" status. How to check PTA approval.

• 5.71-inch waterdrop display, the largest Y5 screen
• 13MP f/1.8 camera with PDAF — best Y5 camera hardware

Who Should Consider This Phone?

Good fit: a buyer who wants the most modern Y5 experience with full Google apps intact — the Y5 2019 is the newest-feeling phone in the whole Y5 line, suitable as a light daily driver or a well-specced backup.

Look elsewhere if: you need a fingerprint sensor, USB-C, or long update support. For Google-free but newer hardware, compare the Y5p in the all mobiles collection.
