Huawei Nova 2 — Full Specifications, Features & Price in Pakistan

The Huawei Nova 2 launched in May 2017 as a stylish mid-range phone with a dual rear camera and a 20MP selfie camera — features that stood out at the time. Nine years later it is long discontinued, but it still circulates in Pakistan's used market as an ultra-budget option, and unlike Huawei's newer phones it runs full Google Mobile Services. This guide covers its verified specifications, the used-market price, and — honestly — what a 2017 phone can and cannot do in 2026.

Design and Build Quality

The Nova 2 is a compact, slim phone by 2026 standards — about 143 g and under 7 mm thick, with a metal unibody and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The 5.0-inch screen makes it genuinely one-hand friendly, something budget buyers with smaller hands still appreciate. Colours ranged from the subtle Obsidian Black to the flashy Grass Green and Aurora Blue. After nine years, expect used units to show wear — check the frame and buttons carefully.

Display Features

The 5.0-inch LTPS IPS LCD at 1080 x 1920 (~441 ppi) was sharp for 2017 and remains perfectly readable today for calls, WhatsApp and YouTube. It is a 16:9 panel with noticeable bezels — no notch, no punch-hole — which some users actually prefer. Brightness and colour are fine indoors; do not expect the punch of a modern AMOLED. For a secondary or backup phone, the display is more than adequate.

Processor and Performance

The Kirin 659 (16nm, octa-core) with 4GB of RAM handles calls, WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube and light browsing acceptably in 2026 — but set expectations honestly: this is a 2017 mid-range chip, and modern apps are far heavier than they were. Heavy multitasking, demanding games, and large app updates will feel slow. Think of it as a communication device with smart features, not a performance phone.

RAM and Storage

4GB of RAM with 64GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD up to 256GB — though the card shares the second SIM slot, so it is dual-SIM or SIM-plus-memory. 4GB was generous in 2017 and still suffices for basic app loads today. Storage expansion via card is a real plus at this used price, where rivals often lock you to 32GB.

Camera Features

The dual rear camera (12MP + 8MP with phase-detection AF and LED flash) takes decent daylight photos — the second sensor assists with depth effects. The 20MP front camera was the Nova 2's headline feature and still takes respectable selfies in good light. Night photography, however, is poor by any modern standard: no night mode, no OIS, small sensor. Treat the cameras as functional, not impressive.

Battery and Charging

A 2,950mAh battery with fast charging. When new it lasted a day of moderate use — but battery age is the critical issue: a nine-year-old battery may hold far less than its rated capacity. Ask the seller about battery health and whether the battery has been replaced; a replaced battery transforms the experience. Carry realistic expectations and keep a charger handy.

Software and Updates

EMUI 5.1 on Android 7 (Nougat) with full Google Mobile Services — Play Store, Gmail, Maps and YouTube all work, which is the Nova 2's biggest advantage over newer Huaweis. The bad news: it has not received security updates in years, so do not use it for mobile banking or sensitive accounts. WhatsApp and mainstream apps still run, but app compatibility will keep shrinking — verify your must-have apps install before buying.

Connectivity and Additional Features

4G LTE (no 5G — and none is possible on this hardware), dual nano-SIM (or SIM + microSD), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM radio, 3.5mm headphone jack, and micro-USB charging. The rear fingerprint sensor still works fine for unlocking. For a backup or first phone for a child, the connectivity essentials are all present.

Variants, Colours and Availability

The main variant is 4GB + 64GB in Aurora Blue, Grass Green, Streamer Gold, Obsidian Black and Rose Gold. A larger sibling, the Nova 2 Plus (5.5-inch, 128GB, 3,340mAh), exists for buyers wanting a bigger screen — do not confuse the two when comparing used prices.

Price in Pakistan and PTA Information

The Nova 2 was discontinued years ago — it is only available in Pakistan as a used or refurbished unit. Zohaan Mobile Gallery's catalog lists it at approximately Rs. 6,999 (2026-10-01 catalog import price), but used prices move with the unit's condition, battery health, and accessories, so confirm the current price — and the exact condition of the piece in stock — with the store before buying. Never pay a new-phone price for a 2017 model.

PTA: PTA approval applies per device and IMEI, not per model. Before paying, send the phone's IMEI to 8484 and confirm "Compliant" status. How to check PTA approval.

Used-unit checklist: check the IMEI via 8484 for PTA status, test the fingerprint sensor and both cameras, inspect the charging port, and ask about the battery — a 9-year-old battery may hold far less than its rated capacity. Zohaan Mobile Gallery provides a 7-day check warranty on used phones.

Google apps: the Nova 2 launched before Huawei's 2019 restrictions, so it ships with full Google Mobile Services — Google Play, Gmail, YouTube and Maps all work. That is a genuine advantage over Huawei's newer HarmonyOS phones, and the main reason these old Novas still sell as used units.

Main Advantages and Limitations

Advantages:

• Full Google Mobile Services — Play Store and all Google apps work
• Compact, light 143 g metal body — genuinely one-hand friendly

• Extremely cheap used — viable as a backup or first phone

Limitations:

• 2017 chip and Android 7: slow with modern apps, no security updates
• Battery age is a lottery — 9-year-old cells degrade badly
• No 5G, no USB-C, dated micro-USB port
• Poor night photography by 2026 standards
• Used-only: condition varies unit to unit
